Assignment III - The Luminaire

Creating a formal, elegant, changeable and evocative luminaire became the intent behind assignment three. Holes were punched in the main surface, and protruding rectangles were inserted into each void.
The rectangles became transparent vessels through which the light from behind can light the space in front of, and to any side of the protrusions.
Finally, the protruding retangles are representative of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's work, using orthogonal and at time seemingly 'deadly' shapes, however they elicit an organic feel.

Assignment III - Progress

These are two different views of the same luminaire. The plan view makes the model appear as if it were made to be a wall sconce.

Assignment Two - In Progress

A doorway designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh was used an inspiration for the forms extruded in Form Z. The slender spandrel-like pieces provide an opportunity for the colored cone, distant and pin lights to catch the forms and project their shadows on the back wall or stage set.
Floating spheres were added between the slender pieces not only as a direct interpretation of Mackintosh’s work, but to break the monotony of the jail-like bars. Ultimately, more elements will be added to the stage set, such as horizontal bars, ellipses and more lights with potentially a projection upon the screen/mesh of shapes.
