Assignment Two - In Progress

A doorway designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh was used an inspiration for the forms extruded in Form Z. The slender spandrel-like pieces provide an opportunity for the colored cone, distant and pin lights to catch the forms and project their shadows on the back wall or stage set.
Floating spheres were added between the slender pieces not only as a direct interpretation of Mackintosh’s work, but to break the monotony of the jail-like bars. Ultimately, more elements will be added to the stage set, such as horizontal bars, ellipses and more lights with potentially a projection upon the screen/mesh of shapes.

Jeff, I was delighted to see you working with the spare set of the stripes and spheres. In the printouts it is much more evident how you have been able to get amazing colored shadows to glow behind them.

Your images remind me of a painter who was exploring horizontal stripes. By his choice of colors, he was able to evoke landscapes without ever being literal.

I'm intrigued to learn that you were inspired by C.R. Mackintosh - the proportions and interest in regular geometry come through. In addition to using regular patterns, Mackintosh tended to emphasize end conditions, and often integrated something organic amidst the geometric.

Keeping the subject of the study simple and pushing the lighting would serve you well for this exercise. I'm eager to see what you come up with. Just get rid of the FormZ purple! and see how the hue, shininess and translucency affects your composition.
